Did you knowingly write untrue statements? I don’t think so based on what you have said. You have shared what she herself said so there will be no grounds for defamation. She can file case but it will not hold in court. If she is doing libel or slander against you then you can also file defamation based on what you said about how she is telling untrue statements about you.

Let her initiate a case, when you get a notice contact a lawyer and let him know that you had forgotten to remove the name.

It is not a defamation case because  you were stating your opinion on a person's appearance, this is a very subjective matter and so it can be both true and false at the same time. For defamation case, you need to state a lie showing it as a fact, with the knowlege that most may believe the lie. So yh, I don't think there is a valid case here since you were just stating your opinion on her looks, this is not a crime.

Some privacy laws may be broken, because you used her photo without her consent.  But if it was photos which was publicly available, not sure whether it would still break the law or not.

Technically, even if you are being honest, someone can still file a defamation case against you.

The key issue is whether the case would hold up in court. Reviews are protected under Freedom of Speech, but defamation or slander is not.

If you have proof of your claims, it's unlikely the lawyer will risk filing a case. However, she might still threaten you with a case so that you back out.

In your negative reviews - **always** be fact based. If you say the owner of the shop is an ass, that's your opinion and can technically be considered slander. If you explain exactly how you had a bad experience, its legally clear. Don't call people names, don't state opinions, just give facts. You'll be 100% in the clear, legally. It's also better for me as a fellow user to read a fact based negative review instead of what seems like a vendetta post.

Statement of fact can’t be termed defamation. Your review as a genuine customer describing the experience will not be treated as defamation unless you cooked up / fabricated the story. They can still file civil and criminal defamation cases against you. But it will be difficult for them to prove it. Not a lawyer so act of this after seeking professional legal advice.

How did they threaten you, call? Make sure to record conversations. Record calls, even if it is not discrete. You can upload to Twitter or YouTube.

Also, in reviews don't accuse, only state your experience that would be enough.

I faced the same issue with a company called iService Malad. They repair phones and laptops

Used their service, was extremely dissatisfied so gave a negative google review
They threatened legal action. I posted on LegalAdvice with the link and story. Everyone from this subreddit review bombed them. They then filed a complaint in the police station and bribed the police, I got a call from the policeman saying to come to the police station. They threatened me to delete the review and all, I told them Madras high court has already given a judgement in this matter that Google Reviews don’t mount to defamation 
The police replied, that is madras this is Mumbai. 

Luckily I got my lawyer friend with me so he handled the situation. The iService company then repaired my laptop for free as police couldn’t help him thanks to my lawyer friend, in return they asked me to delete the review. 

So please do go ahead if you have a lawyer friend to help you in case the company tries shitty tactics

As long as your review doesn't have any name calling or a full fledged insult to a person working in the company it won't be accounted as defamatory remark. One simple rule of defamation is that it should can be an insult, derogatory remark or foul gesture in public (even online platform is considered as "in public" as long as its visible to other people) to a person and a clear intent to do such harm to their reputation. If it is a true statement or a fact it cannot be considered as defamation. In your case it seems like you're genuinely dissatisfied with whatever product you bought from them and left a review for the same so it definitely isn't a case for defamation as per my knowledge. So you have nothing to worry if you haven't gone out of the way and mentioned any names and deliberately insulted them.

A statement is considered defamatory only when it leads to loss of status for eg saying a particular businessman is corrupt may be considered defamatory by the court if you fail to provide evidence supporting your statement. Abusing someone using cuss words without impugning their character or harming their public image does not constitute defamation. Also, many people here are saying that court will dismiss the charges at first glance. This is generally not the case. Summons will be issued to you and you will have to file your reply. This to and from takes months sometimes. All this is applicable if the company threatening you has the wherewithal to file and contest the case. Getting someone convicted for criminal defamation is very tough in India but the justice system is so slow that process becomes the punishment. There are unlikely to file a civil defamation suit because then they will have to deposit a portion of the amount they ask for as court fee. Hope this helps you OP.

It can be valid under some circumstances such as, if you didn’t pay, or you are not at all a customer and faking the review or you had broken the agreement by not paying completely or you had violated their terms in some way.

In a way I wouldn’t recommend publicly putting any bad reviews without contacting customer support and fixing the issue. , problem is they might start bad mouthing you somewhere else.
